Petro-Canada will soon be fueling the country with something other than gasoline — more than 50 EV fast charging stations will be launched across the country. Atlantic Canada will only see stations in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, while Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador won’t be able to take advantage. Construction on the EV stations starts this spring with many opening over the next year.
Peace by Chocolate to hire 50 refugees by 2020
The Amherst-based Peace by Chocolate has announced their new goal to hire 50 refugees over the next three years. Opened by Syrian refugee Tareq Hadhad and his family in 2016, the chocolate company has seen great success and expansion over the past few years with distribution across the country and the world. In addition to the new hires, Hadhad has committed the company to help mentor 10 new refugee startups.
VP of Muskrat Falls transmission leaves Nalcor
John MacIsaac, vice president of power supply at Nalcor, has resigned from his position after eight years with the Crown corporation. MacIsaac served as president of Nalcor in 2015 and was transitioned to his current role — in charge of getting power from Muskrat Falls to Newfoundland — in 2016 with CEO Stan Marshall’s management reorganization. Jim Haynes steps into the role to replace MacIsaac as Jennifer Williams becomes president of NL hydro — she is the first woman ever to take on the role.
P.E.I. gas station closes after six decades
Gass’ Country Store in New Dominion, P.E.I. is closing on February 22 after 62 years of operation. The corner store, which has been part of the island community for decades, says they are closing for financial reasons, but their second store, Gass’ General Store in New Haven, will remain open.
Mrs Dunster’s hits Costco shelves
Sussex-based bakery Mrs Dunster’s can now be picked up in Costco locations across the Maritimes. The New Brunswick business says they were approached by Costco to start selling their signature product, the Famous Garlic Cheese Buns, which now can be found on the bakery shelves at Saint John, Fredericton, Halifax, Dartmouth and Moncton.
