Nova Scotia Loyal: By design

As the tariff war heats up, Atlantic Canadian consumers and B2B buyers are looking for local alternatives to international suppliers. Elbows up!

In a global economy where brand allegiance is fleeting, Nova Scotia Loyal is building something rare: a ‘buy local’ program grounded in place, pride and shared prosperity.

Launched in July 2024 by the Government of Nova Scotia, the program is designed to make buying local easier, more rewarding—and more impactful. Its purpose: to strengthen the provincial economy by encouraging Nova Scotians to support homegrown businesses.

“This is about connecting people to the businesses that make Nova Scotia strong,” says Growth and Development Minister Colton LeBlanc. “We want Nova Scotians to be intentional about supporting one another—and we’re proud to give them an easy, rewarding way to do it.”

The program is free to join for producers who grow, harvest, craft or manufacture products in Nova Scotia and retailers who sell locally made products.

The program has already attracted more than 1,000 partner businesses in its first year. Its reach spans rural and urban communities, helping small and medium-sized enterprises grow their customer base while promoting locally made goods and community pride.

Nova Scotia Loyal also supports the province’s broader “Buy Local” identity, aligning with other initiatives that celebrate regional products and services.

“Our goal is to make buying local as easy and rewarding as possible,” says LeBlanc. “Every time a Nova Scotian chooses local, they’re helping build a stronger economy for everyone.”

It’s not just a program—it’s a movement.
