President & CEO, East Coast Credit Union (Antigonish, N.S.)
2021 Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame Inductee
Ken Shea is the CEO of East Coast Credit Union, Nova Scotia’s largest member-owned financial institution, overseeing more than $1 billion in assets. But at the end of the day, you’re just as likely to find him grilling steaks for friends and family at his Caribou Island cottage along the province’s north shore as you are navigating the ever-evolving world of cooperative finance.
It’s a balancing act, but one Shea has mastered. “We love to spend time there as a family. Whenever we can have quiet time with our daughters and kind of chill at the docks and throw rocks together, it’s a wonderful experience.”

Good day Mr Shea, I live in Mabou Cape Breton and am a member of the local eastcoast credit union and I am disappointed and inconvenienced by the number of times the atm at the branch has been out of service this summer. The branch employees are always so sympathetic in explaining why it’s out of order and I feel it’s extremely frustrating for them also. When it is unavailable we have to drive 20 klms to the nearest one or do without till the branch opens. Many people are working while the branch is open and can’t get to the branch. Many of us rely on the atm to do our banking and it’s very inconvenient when it’s not available. Given the amount of times it has been out of service suggests either the machine has outlived it usefulness or the technician hasn’t got a clue how to fix it. Either way we the members deserve better service than this. Given the fact the the branch employees are second to none when it comes to service it’s downgrading their record of professional service to have the atm down sometimes as long as 5 days. Please Mr Shea investigate this situation and return the service the membership deserves.
Thank you
Donald Macdonald
