Did you know that many of the products moving across Atlantic Canada, from seafood and fresh produce to poultry, beverages, and manufactured goods, may have something in common before they reach their destination?
Their packaging.
For 95 years, Maritime Paper Products has been part of that journey. Founded in Halifax in 1931, Maritime Paper has grown alongside the industries it serves, providing corrugated packaging designed to protect, promote, and move products with confidence.
At first glance, a box may seem simple. But in business, packaging plays an important role. It protects product quality, supports efficient logistics, helps products arrive safely, and represents a brand. It can improve storage, stacking, shipping, and handling. In many cases, it is one of the final touchpoints before a product reaches the customer.
That is why Maritime Paper’s story has never been only about making boxes. It has always been about understanding what customers need those boxes to accomplish.

Over the years, the company has built long-standing partnerships with businesses across Atlantic Canada and beyond. Some customers need packaging that can withstand the demands of seafood exports. Others require solutions for fresh produce, meat and poultry, beverages, retail displays, or manufacturing. Every industry has unique challenges, timelines, and expectations. Maritime Paper’s role is to listen, collaborate, and develop packaging solutions that help customers succeed.
That customer-first approach continues to shape the company today. Through ongoing collaboration and continuous improvement, Maritime Paper works to improve product protection, operational efficiency, sustainability, and brand presentation.
As President and CEO, Sheldon Gouthro often reminds the team that Maritime Paper’s culture is built on a deep sense of responsibility to its people, its customers, and the communities it serves.
“Behind every order, every challenge, and every opportunity, there is a customer need, an employee effort, and a chance to improve. Our job is to understand that reality, work together, and keep delivering with the pride, passion, and purpose that have carried Maritime Paper for 95 years.”
—Sheldon Gouthro, President & CEO
That commitment is reflected throughout the organization. From structural design and production to customer service, logistics, sales, quality, and operations, every team plays a role in delivering the products and services customers rely on every day.
Today, Maritime Paper combines modern manufacturing with structural design, graphic services, packaging audits, vendor-managed inventory, and customized corrugated solutions to meet the evolving needs of the marketplace. The company continues to invest in technology, equipment, and people while remaining grounded in the values that have guided it for generations.

Sustainability is also part of that commitment. Corrugated packaging plays an important role in helping businesses make practical, responsible packaging choices, and Maritime Paper remains focused on solutions that balance performance with environmental responsibility.
At 95, Maritime Paper is proud of its history, but even more focused on the future.
Because after nearly a century, the company’s purpose remains clear: supporting customers, strengthening partnerships, and helping Atlantic Canadian products move from here to there.
Maritime Paper is not only celebrating its 95th anniversary.
It is building on them.
