For meeting planners weary of sprawling convention corridors, endless shuttle schedules and disconnected delegate experiences, Prince Edward Island is leaning into a different kind of advantage: simplicity and proximity.

Through Meet PEI, the province is positioning itself as a destination where business events feel less complicated, more connected and, increasingly, more memorable for delegates themselves. But officials say the appeal extends beyond geography alone.

PEI’s compact scale allows planners to move delegates easily between hotels, venues, restaurants and attractions without the transportation coordination often required in larger centres. In Charlottetown, the airport is roughly 15 minutes from downtown, while hotels, venues and the convention centre sit within walking distance of one another.

That compact footprint, Meet PEI says, removes many of the logistical pressures that can consume time and resources during the planning process. Rather than managing complicated transportation schedules or dispersing delegates across multiple districts, organizers are able to focus more directly on programming, networking opportunities and the overall attendee experience.

The result, meeting planners and business event attendees/delegates say, is a business-events environment that feels intentionally human in scale. Delegates are able to move easily through the city, interact more naturally with local businesses and spend less time navigating infrastructure between meetings and events.

That accessibility appears to shape how visitors engage with the destination once they arrive.

According to a recent Tourism PEI delegate survey, 60.4 per cent of attendees dined at full-service restaurants outside official conference programming, extending both the economic impact and experiential value of events held on the Island.

Meet PEI says that kind of engagement reflects the Island’s ability to blur the line between conference activity and destination experience. Rather than remaining isolated within a convention environment, delegates are able to explore the city organically between sessions and events.

The same survey found that 93.2 per cent of delegates would return to PEI for business or leisure, while 93.1 per cent said they would recommend the province to others. Notably, 61 per cent said the destination itself influenced their decision to attend.

This growing affinity reflects not only the Island’s physical scale, but also its approach to service. The organization works closely with planners through a concierge-style support model that connects clients directly with local partners while helping coordinate everything from early planning through event execution. Officials note that Meet PEI’s planning and support services are provided at no cost to organizers.

“Prince Edward Island allows planners to focus on what truly matters, creating meaningful experiences for their delegates,” says Susan Freeman, executive director of Meet PEI. “Our size, our people, and our way of doing things make it easy to deliver events that feel both seamless and memorable.”
Freeman says the Island’s collaborative culture often becomes one of the destination’s defining advantages for organizers navigating increasingly complex event expectations.

“From the moment planners begin to consider PEI, they are supported by the Meet PEI team and a network of local partners who are genuinely invested in their success, and that level of care is what sets us apart.”
