Scary? Or Heaven sent?

Few of us are aware of the impact Artificial Intelligence is having, and more especially, the impact it is about to have in our everyday lives. An example of its power to generate huge benefits to society is resident in the story of how Moderna developed the first Covid vaccine.

Moderna was only founded in 2010 and not as a traditional pharma company but as a “technology company that happens to do biology,” in the words of its CEO. The significance of that assessment is evident in the following chronology of events. In January of 2020 Chinese scien-tists announced they had fully sequenced the Covid virus gene and made that data available online.
