After graduating from Vancouver Island University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Media, Pretty spent a decade working in Toronto’s tech sector, all the while watching artificial intelligence become an unignorable part of the digital landscape. He eventually returned to Newfoundland where he led the AI workflow automation team at Verafin—the province’s anti-money laundering and digital crime-fighting superstar.
Verafin was founded in Newfoundland over two decades ago and bought by NASDAQ in the biggest venture capital deal in Canadian history. The brand’s latest innovation, headed by Pretty, is an AI Copilot that has been integrated into the existing crime management solution. The product aims to reposition how financial institutions protect themselves (and, by extension, their clients) against financial crimes and threats which have become ever more sophisticated and harder to track. A combination of optimization and innovative technology, Verafin’s genAI Copilot has already earned a reputation as a groundbreaking milestone in financial crime prevention through artificial intelligence.
