When Danine Lyle discovered a small spray foam insulation business for sale on the CBDC businessatlantic.ca website, she wasn’t looking to become an insulation contractor. She was looking for a way to bring her husband, Jason, home.

At the time, Jason was working away in fly-in, fly-out positions, including non-destructive testing at nuclear plants in Ontario. After COVID disrupted opportunities and family priorities shifted, Danine suggested a new path: buy a business and stay in Nova Scotia.

That conversation led to the purchase of the former Brothers Insulfoam operation in August 2022 and the creation of JASE Insulfoam Ltd. Based in East Green Harbour, Nova Scotia, the company is now co-owned by Danine and Jason and serves customers throughout the South Shore.

Jason brought more than 20 years of carpentry and construction experience to the venture, but spray foam insulation was entirely new to him. The couple focused on learning the trade and building the business carefully, planning to expand services only after establishing a strong foundation.

Less than a year after taking ownership, they faced a major challenge. Critical equipment began failing, including the compressor, generator, truck, and proportioner. What had seemed like a manageable business purchase quickly became a serious financial and operational crisis.

Rather than give up, they turned to CBDC Shelburne for help. CBDC had already assisted with financing the business purchase and continued to support the company when challenges arose. Working with Heidi Wagner and the CBDC team, the couple secured a new line of credit and gained the confidence to move forward. The experience strengthened both the business and its owners.

Today, JASE Insulfoam has expanded beyond spray foam insulation to offer blown-in cellulose insulation, windows, doors, and siding. The company serves residential and commercial clients from Yarmouth to Mahone Bay, helping improve energy efficiency and comfort in homes and buildings across the region.

CBDC’s support extended beyond financing. Through consulting and training programs, Danine and Jason received guidance on strategy, marketing, bookkeeping, digital tools, and business planning. They credit CBDC with helping them think bigger and build a stronger foundation for growth.

Looking ahead, the couple plans to continue expanding carefully, with goals that include increasing commercial work, adding a second spray foam rig, and pursuing opportunities in the marine sector. What began as a practical solution to keep a family together has evolved into a thriving rural business and a growing success story on Nova Scotia’s South Shore.
