Ownership changes everything: resource possession vs. ownership

“Time and again, and again and again, our most lucrative resources have been developed for the financial benefit of shareholders far from here. Resource possession means nothing if you don’t own and control its development.”

 

They who own the most stuff, wins. So said a popular ‘80s bumper sticker, somewhat… I’m admittedly paraphrasing here. Though nauseating for its greed, the old-school meme and its homage to excess holds an element of truth. Identifying that truth depends on how you define ownership, what “stuff” you own—and who “you” are.
