The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television gathered in Toronto for their annual salute to the best of the best during Canadian Screen Week (February 23 – March 1, 2015). Ten events over seven days culminated with the big Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala, shown on CBC.

While the field of competition was national, the East Coast was well represented among this year’s nominees, many of whom took home the hardware. Most notably, The Rick Mercer Report was honoured for: Best Variety or Sketch Comedy Program; Best Writing; and Best Performance (for host, St. John’s native Rick Mercer). The Nova Scotia production of Call Me Fitz, starring Jason Priestley, took home four awards, including Best Comedy Series. The prestigious Claude Jutra Award, celebrating the outstanding debut of a first time filmmaker was presented to Fall River, N.S. native Jeffrey St. Jules for his movie Bang Bang Baby and Fredericton, N.B.-born Lost Girl star Anna Silk received the Fan’s Choice award for Favourite Canadian Screen Star.
