The 27th annual gathering of the East Coast Music Association took place in St. John’s, N.L. this past April. The five-day festival welcomed artists and musicians from across the four Atlantic provinces as well as folks from around the world to celebrate everything the East Coast music scene has to offer. Amidst the merriment of countless concerts, wonderful workshops, songwriting sessions and award presentations, there was plenty of business going on too. The 14th edition of the Export Buyers Program welcomed over 100 music industry delegates, resulting in 662 one-on-one business meetings with artists/companies. That translates into tour dates, unit sales and East Coast music being made around the world. ECMA Week means big local business too. The economic impact for St. John’s was over $3 million; 2016 host Sydney, N.S. is projected to reap the same.
