It’s not quite at the snap of the fingers, but Space Exploration Technologies—better known as SpaceX—is working to make high-speed internet universally available.
If you don’t live in a rural or remote community with non-existent or spotty internet service, that may not mean much. You’d also not be part of the early requests for the Starlink satellite system in Canada. The system is a potential game changer for everything from educational opportunities to healthcare and day-to-day business.
Interest in Starlink ramped up quickly in early 2021. But it was actually mid-October 2020 when the good news arrived for Bret Johnsen at 1 Rocket Road in Hawthorne, California. The chief financial officer of SpaceX was told the company had landed a new license from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
