Atlantic Business Magazine founders inducted into AJA Hall of Fame
At last Saturday’s Atlantic Journalism Awards in Halifax, our founding partners and publishers Hubert and Edwina Hutton were inducted into the AJAs Hall of Fame for their thirty years of hard work in the publishing industry. We salute them!
The other inductees into the Hall of Fame are Canadian Press photographer Andrew Vaughan; sports reporter Bill Hunt; AJAs Executive Director Bill Skerrett; G. Cecil Day, the owner/publisher and editor of The Advance community newspaper in Liverpool, NS; NB radio journalist Michel Doucet; Vince Gallant for his 65-year radio career; and broadcast journalist Yvonne Colbert.
We also congratulate our Contributing Editor Stephen Kimber for his two gold awards at this year’s AJAs: Atlantic Magazine Article for his piece ‘Scents & sensibility’ chronicling the work of Barb Stegman and Business Reporting: Any Medium for ‘Judgment Day’ documenting the story behind Knowledge House Inc. and the longest criminal trial in Nova Scotia history.
Gahan House opens in Moncton
Prince Edward Island’s Gahan House Restaurant & Brewery has opened in Moncton in the new FiveFive Queen building on May 5. The 200-seat restaurant is serving up classic pub items and Gahan brews on tap and also has a patio with room for 120 people.
East Coast Lifestyle sets up shop in Cavendish
The popular clothing brand East Coast Lifestyle has announced they will be opening a retail store on the Cavendish Boardwalk this month. They are also releasing a limited edition line of PEI-branded clothing for the new store.
Pollen launches at TEDxStJohn’s
A new local expertise network launched last Saturday at the TEDx event at the St. John’s Farmers’ Market. Pollen is an online platform that connects community members with speakers, facilitators and presenters in order to broaden the network of speakers for prospective engagements.
WestJet to be sold for $5 billion
The Calgary-based airline has announced its $5-billion sale to Onex Corporation and will become a private company. The deal is set to close by the end of the year. WestJet operates dozens of flights throughout Atlantic Canada daily.
