Three Atlantic Canadian cities were included on the 2018 YouthfulCities Canadian Index, which measures the youthful infrastructure for Canadians aged 15-29. Moncton topped the easternmost cities ranking 9th overall, scoring points as one of the best cities in the country for fostering entrepreneurship, as well as the highest number of post-secondary institutions and the low-cost monthly transit. Halifax took the 11th spot, garnering praise for all their public green space, but lost points for having the highest age minimum age to register a business (the age is 19; in St. John’s it’s 12). In last place, St. John’s came in 13th due to high youth unemployment and low walkability, despite placing second in the top five for education and having the lowest rents. Toronto got top marks, ranking first overall, just skimming by Vancouver and Montreal. For the complete data index read more here.
