Last week, J.D. Irving, Limited announced its plan to hire more than 7500 people across North America between 2019 and 2021, with 89 per cent of jobs located in Atlantic Canada. The company’s goal is to keep skilled workers in the region or bring them home again with the plan of hiring an additional 2500 students. In Atlantic Canada the jobs will be distributed in Operations, Shipping, Supply & Logistics, Retail Sales, and Finance positions with 3,200 jobs alloted to New Brunswick, 2,221 to Nova Scotia, 727 to Prince Edward Island and 494 to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Newfoundland health food restaurant opens in Moncton
Eat Clean Healthy Grill will open the doors of its newest location on January 29 at 40 Champlain Street in Dieppe, N.B. The franchise serves smoothies, wraps and power bowls, in addition to meals tailored to those who are body building, gluten-free and vegan. This will be the fifth location for the Newfoundland-based clean food franchise, which was established in 2014, with plans in motion to open four more in the coming months.

New brewery announced for P.E.I.
Montague will be home to the newest brewery on the Island. Bogside Brewing, located at 11 Brook Street, has announced an April opening featuring a 10,000 square foot brewhouse along with a restaurant and bar area. The 16 taps will flow with Bogside suds, along with other Atlantic Canadian craft beers. This is sixth brewery for P.E.I. and the second for Montague — Copper Bottom Brewing opened in November, 2017.

Halifax chosen as an eBay e-commerce training centre
eBay Canada has announced the first Canadian city that will host its e-commerce training course. Halifax was chosen because of its strong small business community and will aim to help local businesses with e-commerce growth. Nicknamed the Retail Revival, the year-long training course will be offered to at least 70 businesses in Atlantic Canada and will include in-classroom training, online support and free online listings.

Newfoundland retail outlet closes after twenty-five years
The Marystown, N.L. location of Jeans Experts is closing its doors at the end of this month. After more than 20 years, the store which has only seven locations remaining across Atlantic Canada and Quebec, will be closed. One full time and five part-time jobs will be made redundant at the end of January.
