Online babywearing shop opens brick-and-mortar store in Moncton

Close To The Heart, an online babywearing store based in Moncton, New Brunswick has opened a new storefront at 1988 Mountain Road. After five years of selling online and being named the best babywearing store in the country by Babywearing in Canada, owner Larissa Flanagan decided to open a shop with a variety of babywearing products as well as local handmade wares. The store will also have a community area for local events to be held.

Wicker Emporium files for bankruptcy
The Halifax-based chain of furniture stores which has been open since 1972 has announced they’re closing. After starting bankruptcy proceedings at the beginning of October, Wicker Emporium will be shuttering their last six stores after 47 years. The family-run business had as many as 23 stores in Atlantic Canada and Ontario at the end of 2014.

Restaurant in Hammonds Plains bought out by Halifax pub
The landmark restaurant Edible Matters in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia has been purchased by another cornerstone Halifax pub. The Doherty family, who own the Old Triangle at 5136 Prince Street in downtown Halifax have purchased the local restaurant from father-son team Matt and Ed Webber, who opened Edible Matters in 2012.

Lar’s custard cones are twirling in St. John’s again
A new local restaurant has brought Lar’s Fruit Market’s famous custard cone machine out of retirement. Newfoundland Embassy, a new pub and restaurant opened in the same location as the much-loved convenience store operated out of from 1954 to 2003 and are paying homage to the favourite treat by offering up an ice cream stand at Lar’s Custard Cones. The stand will be seasonal, but patrons of the pub will be able to enjoy a cone for dessert any time.

Saint John recognizes business excellence
The Saint John Regional Chamber of Commerce held their annual Outstanding Business Awards gala this past Thursday night. Two companies, Homestar Inc. and InteliSys Aviation Systems Inc. shared the Business Excellence Award, while Taste of Egypt took home the Entrepreneurial Achievement Award. The Emerging Enterprise Award was given to Dragon’s Den alumni Milliennia TEA Inc., while the Young Entrepreneur Award was taken home by Justin Barry of Ad-Just Lawn Maintenance.
