“Everything we had planned, we were told, would be meaningless if we didn’t offer younger and marginalized women the chance to be part of the program. Lastly, they said it was imperative that no one be left behind by financial circumstances.”
“Behind every successful man, there’s a woman.”
I’ve always, always, always hated that phrase. Even as it acknowledges women’s importance, it manages to simultaneously imply that that’s where we belong: in the background.
We kept that dichotomy top of mind when we launched our Most Powerful Women in Business awards three years ago.
