Culinary Tourism

A number of other adventure-culinary tourism ventures are emerging across the Island, including such experiences as making your own potato fudge in O’Leary or learning how to work on a farm.

As a result of these new initiatives, a new Culinary Alliance has been established by the provincial government to help visitors find and participate in the many different culinary tourism options available. It aims to connect visitors to places like local farmers markets as well as culinary events such as Fall Flavours. A new ‘Flavours Trail’ guide is being created to provide a central culinary resource or guide for tourists. The Province is printing 50,000 copies of the new guide, which will be printed in both English and French. It will link tourism, fisheries, agriculture and the local food community together into one comprehensive package. These bilingual guides will allow different restaurants to become involved as long as they purchase 40 per cent of their products from local sources.

As Don Cudmore of the Tourism Industry Association says: “This is an exciting opportunity and this is another item on our (tourism product) menu.” It’s also an exciting time to be involved in the food industry on Prince Edward Island.
