Oh, Canada!

There was no better place to be on Canada Day this year than Charlottetown, P.E.I., as the nation’s smallest province hit the midpoint of its biggest celebration: P.E.I. 2014 is a year-long, province-wide sesquicentennial salute to the 1864 Charlottetown Conference. The July 1st free outdoor concert was just one of over 150 festivals, events and activities planned throughout the year. From conferences to ceilidhs, marathons to musicals – there’s something for everyone. Capitalizing on this important moment in our nation’s history kicked off December 31st and already the Island has seen an increase in bridge traffic, hotel bookings and airport travel. As of mid-July, Meetings and Conventions P.E.I. was reporting a 68 per cent increase in bookings and being 96 per cent ahead on delegate numbers over 2013 numbers for same period. That’s due in part to their six provincial partners – Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia are all sharing in the celebrations and welcoming the world to Prince Edward Island.
