Losing it

Atlantic Canada has the highest obesity rates in Canada. Rachelle Wood wants to see that change.

The registered holistic nutritionist has certainly done her part. In the past nine years, her company of one (she’s the sole employee of Rachelle Wood Nutrition Inc.) has helped over 3,000 clients shed a staggering total of 125,000 pounds.

This P.E.I. farm girl doesn’t claim to have any magic potion. She knows first-hand that weight loss takes will-power, planning and hard work because she successfully trimmed 100 pounds off her own figure. Knowledge gained through that experience led her to create a unique program that caught the attention of other professionals in her field.

“In 2007 I had colleagues who heard about my success in P.E.I. and wondered how I was capturing the market and competing with people like Weight Watchers and Herbal Magic. I told them it was because of my written content,” says Wood.’

Wood partnered with Island-based tech company Thinking Big to create SeeResults, a subscription-based, 52-week online weight loss program that offers clients a customized nutrition approach, goal-planning, and the ability to communicate directly with their nutritionist. SeeResults is sold only to professionals in the nutrition field with whom Woods has personally met and mentored.

“I want to have that educational standard there. What sets my brand apart from others is that we are a group of licensed and registered practitioners who want to make a difference for Canadians,” Wood says.

Wood recently decided to relocate from Charlottetown to Moncton, where she finds travel connections are easier. Her goal is to grow SeeResults across the country and work in corporate health. As a registered employee assistance program provider in both provinces, she has already led several successful weight loss programs in government departments like Veterans Affairs Canada.

“I’ve helped decrease health care costs by teaching individuals to live a proactive, health building lifestyle. It’s a win-win situation,” she says.
