East Coast Lifestyle sets up shop in Dartmouth
The popular apparel company East Coast Lifestyle has opened their flagship store at Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth, N.S. What once was the entrepreneurship class project of Alex Maclean in 2013, is now a nationally recognized brand with t-shirts reppin the east coast provinces from coast to coast. The new store offers apparel donning the East Coast Lifestyle branding ranging from their classic hoodies to baseball caps and their new collection of boat flag themed wears.

Busload of N.B. businesses head to Montreal
The East Coast Caravan will be zooming to Montreal carrying more than 50 entrepreneurs to Startupfest in July. The bus, sponsored by various investor groups like the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation and the Pond Deshpande Centre, will cover the cost of New Brunswick entrepreneurs gearing up to attend Startupfest which is marking its eighth year. The applicants lucky enough to hitch a ride on the caravan will enjoy three days of keynotes and investment opportunities.

Pennecon purchases flips former school for primary care services
Pennecon Realty have put plans in motion to turn Macpherson Academy into a private healthcare provider nerve center in St. John’s. The 70-year old building will be refurbished to offer up space for all varieties of healthcare professionals from physiotherapists to nurse practitioners. Macpherson is just one of three buildings Pennecon purchased in a $3-million deal which also includes Booth Memorial high school and Bishop’s college.

P.E.I. grocery store closing aisles
The Foodland in Summerside is set to close at the end of July. The announcement was made last week first to employees and then by posting signage at the store on June 21. Sobeys, who owns the Foodland chain, says they are trying to place the 38 employees at their Summerside location. Foodland is the only grocery in the downtown waterfront area; Sobeys, Atlantic Superstore and Walmart are clustered near County Fair Mall, a 10-minute drive away.  

CBCL leadership shakeup
The CEO of CBCL Ltd., of Atlantic Canada’s biggest engineering consultants has announced his retirement for January of next year. Michael MacDonald will leave the company leaving the lead role to John Flewelling after 22 years with the company. The incumbent served as manager of CBCL in Saint John N.B. and will take over as executive VP in Halifax until MacDonald’s departure.
